"Tui Na is one of the major healing systems used in China. TCM hospitals all have a Tui Na department. Tui in Chinese means to push, Na means to grasp. Tui Na is the Chinese way of massage. This type of massage focuses on meridians, acupuncture point, muscles, tendons, joints, and soft tissue.
Tui NA has a long history in China. Many scholars believe it predates acupuncture. When humans have an illness, first they use their hands to touch the problem area. this touch can help stop the problem.
Tui Na is also called An Mo, An means to press and Mo means to rub. Tui Na and An Mo are the four major techniques of Chinese massage. Tui Na therapy is very important in the Tong Ren Healing System, many times it is used to tear and separate the tissue to open a blockage.
Chinese Tui Na has a great range for healing, especially for injuries. A Tui Na therapist does the physical therapist's job in China, and they do a lot of internal healing also. Many sicknesses only need a simple Tue Na treatment, for healing to occur. Often when we have something wrong, it may be caused by muscular tension. If we can do a little Tui Na to loosen the muscle, then the tension will disappear and the sickness will be gone.
Tom Tam's healing system was developed from Tui Na. Tui Na is the use of one's hands to connect with the patient. In this connection of touch the blockages are found which relate with the organs and the cause of the Chi imbalance. Long-term blockages are big and deep so we must use the deep techniques of Tui Na to open them. Tui Na on a regular basis prevents disease and increases longevity.
There are many styles of Tui Na in China. In our healing practice our Tui Na system is different from those in China because we pay more attention to the spinal column and its blockage points. Our system combines Tui Na with Tong Ren Therapy and acupuncture which gives us a wide healing range. During Tui Na treatment the patient may feel some discomfort. Some may even have a painful feeling for a few days after the treatment. This is not a harmful side effect; it is the symptom of the blockage opening."
